First issued to RAF crew in 1943, the Mk VIII A sun spectacles feature precision ground curved type meniscus, Karl Zeiss green polarised lenses. The frame has bowed temples for comfort with adjustable sprung temple tips which fit around the ear to avoid slippage during barrel rolls, dog fights and general, everyday use. |
A visit to Algha Works in East London in 2014 resulted with them agreeing to resurrect the WW2 and Cold War 1950's sun spectacles for us, using same machinery and tooling which produced the originals. |
2020 saw the antique machinery shipped to Italy, where the glasses are now made, for complete refurbishment, production finally resumed again in 2023 and the spectacles are now back in stock. This eyewear is made to a very high standard, still on the original machinery, by Italian craftsmen and only the finest materials are used in their manufacture. |
